We are based in Wanaka, South Island of New Zealand, all of our images of Southern Sky targets are taken by us. These are not images that have been down loaded off the net. Our telescopes and cameras are set up and operational most clear moonless nights, you are buying direct from the photographer.
We are adding new images frequently so please pop back or get in touch with us if you don't see exactly what you want, we can do commission works such as comets or specific targets that you may want.
Light has properties of both a wave in the visible part of the electro magnetic spectrum and a particle (photon). What we do is capture the photons that have been travelling through the vastness of space for very long distances and very long times.
Light travels quickly. Every second it covers about 300,000 km. So let's think about that for a moment, IC2631 above, is in our Milky Way Galaxy and lies approximately 500 light years away in the Southern Sky. That means that the photons that arrived at our telescope and triggered the CCD camera chip to record this image left their source about 500 years ago. Every second of every minute of every hour of every day since they have been doing 300,000 km per second.
The Galaxy in the bottom left corner is a different story, it is about 70 million light years distant, those photons you see recorded there left when the dinosaurs were walking the earth ... fossilised light or lightfossils. It really is looking back in time, the images we see are what they looked like when the light left them all that time ago.
Because light pollution degrades our night sky please be mindful of protecting this wonderful resource for all to share.
